Is the Hercules emulator capable of running Linux natively, or does Linux for s390x require a z/VM host? It would be handy to be able to build and run Linux programs for that architecture without the need for a full-blown Z machine. submitted by /u/HighLevelAssembler[link][comments]

- Mainframe Internshipby bruhidk123345 on 2025-04-17 at 06:22
Got offered a mainframe dev internship at this pretty important financial institution. I’m not sure if I should accept it or take a SDET internship at a f500. The mainframe internship is using Algol and COBOL. I don’t want to pigeonhole myself, so I’m not sure what to do. The work in Algol is pretty high impact, but I’m worried the resume value dimishes since it’s an old tech stack, regardless of how vital it is. The return offer rate for the mainframe internship does seem high though, so I’m in a hard place rn. Looking for thoughts and advice. I’ve heard so much conflicting things about the future of mainframe dev. submitted by /u/bruhidk123345[link][comments]
